Travel outside the U.S.
Mountaineers traveling outside of the U.S. can access medical care for certain scenarios. See additional information below.
Members traveling outside of the U.S. can access medical care for urgent/emergency services and we will cover it at the highest benefit level. This can include reimbursements for prescriptions, urgent care visits and/or emergency room visits.
Once Aetna receives the claim reimbursement forms along with itemized receipts the member will get reimbursed the cost, minus any cost share such as deductible/coinsurance.
If needed, Aetna can provide members traveling outside of the country a letter showing proof of coverage.
If members are going to be outside of the country for 3-6 months, depending on the prescription, Aetna can generally provide an override so that members can have the amount of medication needed on hand while outside of the U.S. If members do need to get prescriptions while abroad, it would be the same as above where they can get reimbursed the cost upon Aetna receiving the necessary information.
Should a member be seriously injured and be required to stay inpatient outside of the U.S., there is an international team that will work directly with providers to help submit claims electronically.
Healthcare providers can contact our Aetna International (AI) Passport to HealthCare team at: 800-414-0596.
Passport to HealthCare is an Administrative Service Contract that gives non-U.S. business partners with exposure to U.S. expenses and medical cost containment solutions for their members needing medical treatment in the U.S. for:
