Compensation
Base Pay
Base pay is the foundation of your paycheck and a component of your total monetary compensation. It's the amount of money you earned for your position. Base pay could be determined by an hourly rate, a salary, or some other factor. Base pay is determined by factors such as your role, your experience, and market data.
Bonus or Incentive Program
A bonus or incentive payment is a reward paid to eligible Associates based on performance. When CarMax achieves our goals, that success is shared with eligible associates in the form of a bonus or incentive payment. The type of bonus you may receive depends on your role and what you’re eligible for.
Stock Program
CarMax offers long-term incentive programs to Associates:
Stock grants as part of eligible associates' total monetary compensation package. These grants are issued by the Company on an annual basis, generally in the first quarter of the fiscal year, and are subject to leadership and Board of Director approval, so are not guaranteed.
A voluntary Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), where Full-Time and Part-Time Associates that are AVP and below can purchase company stock after completing one year of service. The ESPP allows Associates to purchase CarMax Common Stock through after-tax payroll deductions, up to 10% of pay. The Company provides a matching contribution equal to 15% of the Associate's contribution with a cap.
CarMax stock is publicly traded on the NYSE as KMX.
