Continuing your CarMax Benefits while on Leave

You may continue many of your CarMax benefits while you are away on an approved leave. You are responsible for payment of premiums or contributions, as applicable, for any plans you are enrolled in while you are on Leave.

Medical Leave Policy

A Medical Leave is defined as a leave consisting of a minimum of seven calendar days away from work due to your medical condition, as certified by a medical provider. It is an unpaid leave that may last for up to six months.

Family Medical Leave Policy

CarMax is committed to helping you balance your work and life obligations. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that provides job protected leave for Associates who meet certain qualifications. An FMLA Leave may be for one’s own medical condition or it may be to care for a qualified family member.

Parental Leave Policy

CarMax's Parental Leave policy provides eligible Associates up to six weeks of paid time off in connection with the birth, adoption, and/or placement for adoption of a child.

Military Leave Policy

The Military Absence and Leave policy provides time off from work for Associates due to voluntary or involuntary participation in one of the uniformed services of the United States of America. Participation in the uniformed services includes active military duty, active duty for military training, and inactive military training duty.

Personal Leave Policy

Personal Leave provides unpaid time-off when you require a leave not covered by other available types of leave. If eligible, you may request a Personal Leave for any legitimate reason.

Private State Leave Plans

CarMax complies with all applicable federal, state, and municipal leave requirements. Please contact AbsenceOne with questions- (855) 253-9101

Administrative Leave Policy

CarMax may initiate an Administrative Leave under certain circumstances. Associates will receive specific information if placed on an Administrative Leave.

When Your Leave of Absence Reaches 26 Weeks

Your participation in CarMax Benefit plans changes when your Medical or Short-Term Disability Leave reaches six months. Your participation in each benefit plan while on Leave is subject to the terms and conditions of each plan.
