Sick & Vacation Policies for Full-Time Hourly / Commissioned Associates

Sick Time Policy

Sick Time is for when eligible Associates need to miss work due to an illness or a personal situation.

Hourly and Commissioned Associates who are classified in Workday as a Full-Time Associate.

Because certain states and municipalities have regulated paid sick time requirements, eligibility for paid Sick Time may vary depending on where you work. CarMax complies with all applicable federal, state, and municipal paid sick time requirements.

Vacation Policy

Paid Vacation Time is provided to eligible Associates to take time off from the workplace for personal reasons, rest, relaxation, trips, and other needs.

After 1 year of service, you are eligible if you are classified in Workday as a Part-Time Associate.

Your accrual rate is determined based on your continuous years of service and employment status on the first day of each work week based on the schedule below.

Sick Time Policy

Depending on the where you work, you may be eligible if you are classified in Workday as a Part-Time Associate.

Because certain states and municipalities have regulated paid sick time requirements, eligibility for paid sick time may vary depending on where you work. CarMax complies with all applicable federal, state, and municipal paid sick time requirements.

Vacation Policy

Paid Vacation Time is provided to eligible Associates to take time off from the workplace for personal reasons, rest, relaxation, trips, and other needs.

Other Leave Policies

Time Away Policy for Salaried Associates

Salaried Associates who are classified in Workday as a Full-Time Salaried Associate are eligible.

Time Away is a benefit that provides Salaried Associates with the opportunity to take time off for personal reasons. Time Away refers to being away from work with manager approval during normal working hours, for personal reasons such as vacation, sick time (time off for medical reasons which is not in excess of six calendar days), holidays, personal time, bereavement time, and/or jury duty.

Personal Time Policy

Paid Personal Time is provided to eligible Associates who need to miss work for a personal situation, whether planned or unplanned.

Hourly and Commissioned Associates who are classified in Workday as a Full-Time Associate are eligible.

After you have completed 1 year of service,

  • you will receive 8 hours of Personal Time each calendar year
  • First year: On your 1-year anniversary date
  • Subsequent years: On January 1st

Holiday Policy

CarMax provides eligible Associates with a total of six paid holidays a year, allowing our Associates to enjoy time off during the holidays, as well as compensate those Associates who work based on business needs.

Jury Duty Policy

Paid time off is provided to eligible Associates who are called to serve on jury duty at the Federal, State or Local level.

Location Closure Emergency Pay and Clean Up Pay Policy

A CarMax location may need to close or delay opening to accommodate emergency conditions, such as inclement weather (e.g., snow, hurricanes, etc.) or for other reasons, such as power outages, or other government mandated closures. In these situations, the Company will provide reasonable notice of the closure to Associates who are scheduled to work during the day(s) when the location closes.

Funeral Leave Policy - Bereavement

Paid time off is provided to eligible Associates for making arrangements, settling family affairs, bereavement, and/or attending funeral or memorial services of an immediate or extended family member.
