How to enrol

Choosing your benefits is easy, whether you’re a newly eligible Mountaineer, you’ve experienced a qualifying life event, or it’s Open Enrolment.

Read on to know when to make your choices and why it’s important to review your benefits each year.

There are three opportunities to choose your benefits as a Mountaineer:

• Open Enrolment

  All Mountaineers can review/change current elections during Open Enrolment.

  Open Enrolment takes place each fall.

  Elections take effect January 1 of the following year.

• Qualifying life event

  You can only make changes to your benefits outside of Open Enrolment if you have a qualifying life event.

  Qualifying life events include marriage, birth, divorce, or loss/gain of coverage outside of Iron Mountain.

  You must make changes within 30 days of the event or wait until the next Open Enrolment or qualifying life event.

  Changes take effect on the date of the qualifying life event.

• Newly benefits eligible

  Are you a new Mountaineer or a Mountaineer whose change in employment status qualifies for benefits eligibility?

  To ensure you have immediate peace of mind, we automatically enrol you in Basic Health and Preventive Dental for Employee Only coverage.  Your elections are effective on your benefits eligibility date and you may incur retroactive deductions to the same effective date. 

  How to make changes

  If you want to choose a different plan or add dependants, you can update your elections through the Iron Mountain Benefits Center by selecting the Benefits card to review your information.  

  • When: Your 30-day enrollment window opens 30 days after your hire date or your employment status change effective date.

  • Opting out: To waive coverage, you must provide proof of alternative insurance.

  Once this window closes, your selections remain in place until the next annual open enrolment period, unless you experience a qualifying life event.

• Payroll Deductions

  The benefits you select will be effective following 30 days of continuous employment or employment status change effective date.  You will incur payroll deductions retroactive to that date.
