Hospital Indemnity Plan

Visit the 2025 Open Enrollment page for information on benefit changes effective 1/1/2025.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance (HI), administered by Aetna, pays benefits when you have a planned or unplanned hospital stay for an illness, injury, surgery, or if you are having a baby. The plan pays a lump-sum benefit for admission and a daily benefit for a covered hospital stay. You can use the cash benefits to help pay for out-of-pocket medical costs or personal expenses. Benefits are paid regardless of any other insurance you may have and you may enroll eligible dependents.

You are eligible to enroll if you are regular associates scheduled to work 20 or more standard hours per week. You may generally only enroll as a new hire or during Open Enrollment only each calendar year.

To view full program details, including summary plan descriptions/overviews (as applicable), access the Library by going to Learn in the header and then selecting Resource Library. If the Library is not visible, you must be logged in first as a regular associate.

Voluntary vs Bundled Hospital Indemnity Insurance
If you elect coverage in the Basic Plus medical plan option

  • You and your covered dependents (under the Basic Plan) will automatically be enrolled in Hospital Indemnity Insurance.
  • You will see medical coverage and Hospital Indemnity Insurance (HI) as separate paycheck deductions.

If you do not elect the Basic Plus medical plan option (or you Waive medical benefits)
  • You may choose to elect Hospital Indemnity Insurance benefits for you and your eligible dependents.
For 2025
  • Bundled Hospital Indemnity Insurance will no longer be required for the Basic Plus Plan in 2025. You will only have the option of electing the standalone Hospital Indemnity Plan.
